 This was the first paper that I began pulling using the Joe Pye weed fiber. This material is the coarser ‘trash’ from the beginning of the process of extracting the longer fibers. View fullsize

 This was my first attempt at this process. In this piece I was trying to figure out how to make long sheets of paper by laminating the paper as it is pulled. I embedded threads into this piece but did not attempt to put 118 threads in the piece.   I View fullsize

 This was the next piece that I made. This piece is much longer and does include all of the threads. In this piece I dyed the ends of the fiber in the clay before I made the piece.   I developed the process further with this one - I now have a system View fullsize

 I am pressing the piece because I am interested in the embossing which allows the threads to show through the surface of the paper. These are paper ‘quilts’ and a quilt by definition is 3 layers. The stitching or ‘quilting’ is really nothing more th View fullsize
 I do love the fringing of these pieces. They seem to visually reference the construction of some religious garments and textiles. View fullsize
 As you might see from a couple of the detail shots I am having some issues with the paper not laminating at the ends. I think there are several reasons why this might be happening. First, I’m not removing the sizing from the thread beforehand so the View fullsize
